"Al Capp and Milton
Caniff."
No. 103 in the KSP Postcard Series
(No. 1 of 18 in the Famous Cartoonist
Postcard sub-set).
Capp (creator
of Li'l Abner) was arguably the most famous cartoonist
in history. Caniff (creator of Terry & The Pirates
and Steve Canyon) was nearly as famous. The jowl to jowl
grimmacing pose suggests the two are fierce rivals, but in reality
they were lifelong friends, beginning in the early 1930's when
each was an unknown in New York City's Associated Press bullpen.
Both, ironically, labored on the same obscure strip, Mr. Gilfeather,
before becoming syndicated stars. 4" x 6" sepia tone
card on heavy card stock. $2.00.
